A Kind of Magic

We’ve all seen the ‘guess the amount of candy in the jar’ game. A large pot full of candy often on a stand at an exhibition, and everybody has a go at guessing how many sweets are in the jar.

The real-life version of this is ‘guess the number of items in the laundry cart’. Do you hand count them and classify them, or sort them into different bins? What if there was a magical way to do this instantly?

High tech laundry

Laundry tag

A kind of magic is to roll the cart in front of some sensors and then get an instant readout of not only how many items are in the cart, but also what type and who they belong to.

There are many existing RFID solutions for laundry services which appeal to large operations, but we’ve found that smaller independent operations are just unaware of the advantages of RFID.

A small tag is sewn into each piece of laundry which is then programmed with the type of laundry (towel, sheet, bathrobe, etc.) that it is attached to. It can also identify the owner or rental partner to help with the logistics of the laundry process. These tags can be read from a distance of up to 10m with perfect accuracy allowing the fast and efficient processing of laundry within a hotel and/or a laundry partner. They can survive 200 washes and be ironed as well making them ideal for attaching to laundry within a commercial environment.

Security

A sensor can also be placed at reception or in the luggage room to indicate when a guest accidentally packs a piece of the hotel’s property in their suitcase…

We’ll leave it up to you how to deal with that though!

Deciding whether an automated RFID system could improve your operation is something we’d love to help you with. Whether that involves an existing large-scale solution from another provider or a custom one from us or neither, we will always recommend what we feel is best for you.
